Diggerland USA, a new construction-themed amusement park, is scheduled to open next month in West Berlin, NJ, just in time for the summer vacation season. The park is unique because a majority of the rides and attractions are made from modified heavy construction equipment. The park is being billed as “North America’s first-ever construction-themed adventure park” and will allow visitors to hop in the cab and try their hand at operating excavators, skid-steers, backhoes and dump trucks.

The concept for the park is modeled on the four Diggerland Adventure Parks located in the United Kingdom. Just like in the UK parks, the heavy equipment used in most of the attractions was supplied by JCB, the world’s third-largest construction equipment manufacturer. Both the Ground Shuttle and Sky Shuttle rides are modified JCB 540-170 Telehandlers. The Sky Shuttle ride can lift up to 15 passengers 50 feet into the air with its hydraulic arm which can lift over 8,000 pounds. The Ground Shuttle keeps passengers a little closer to earth by bouncing them along a specially designed course. The JCB 540-170 is a full-sized 4-stage telescopic handler with a 109hp engine that can move the 26,587 pound machine along at 18mph.

The Spin Dizzy, which is a little reminiscent of a Tilt-A-Whirl, is made from a JCB JS220, a 22 ton hydraulic excavator with a specially modified bucket to seat passengers. The ride spins passengers around 360 degrees while the bucket is lifted and lowered. The Spin Dizzy looks like it could end up being the most popular attraction at the park and probably the most vomit-inducing ride for those with weak stomachs. For the younger crowd, the Dig-A-Round is a carousel ride powered by a JCB 8065 excavator with the seats being made from buckets of the JCB 8065.

Much like the name of the park suggests there are plenty of opportunities to dig in the dirt at Diggerland USA. The Giant Diggers, Big Diggers and Mini Diggers let visitors operate a stationary JCB excavator to dig in the dirt or play games. The Giant Diggers allows you 360 turning access in a stationary 14,515 pound JCB 8065 excavator. The Big Diggers puts kids in control of a JCB 8030 ZTS mini excavator. This machine features a 26.8hp engine and weighs in at 7,092 pounds. The Mini Diggers features the JCB 8018 mini excavators and allows kids test their skills at bowling, digging for buried treasure or catching Dippy Ducks from a pond.

The park also features a number of obstacle courses to maneuver where guests can get behind the wheel of a variety of heavy equipment like the JCB 135 Robot Skidsteer Loader, the Terex TA1EH Dump Truck, the custom-made Turnpike Tractor or even a JCB 3CX on the Backhoe Adventure. Other attractions at the park include a rock wall, a ropes course and the Kids’ Zone.

The grand opening for Diggerland USA is scheduled for June 14th at 10 a.m. and tickets for the park were still available for purchase online at their website. If purchased online, admission is $29.95 not including the convenience fee or any applicable taxes and is date specific to control capacity at the park. Walk up ticket prices are listed at $34.95 on the Diggerland USA site.

Thanks for the report about diggerland! I am for sure going to take my kids here one of these days. It is important for kids to fall in love with tractors again!
Thank you so much for sharing!

Thanks for the comment Richard. Hopefully it will be as successful as it is in the UK and they will expand to more locations in the US.
